We are close to... ST. KILDA

SmartStay is a short walk away from Melbourne's most famous seaside suburb: St Kilda.

St Kilda, home of colourful characters and bohemian life. Cafes and restaurants there have a unique edge, some with a unique history.

The renowned continental cake shops in Acland Street reflect a European/ Jewish history and specialise in classic babka, kugelhof, and poppy-seed cakes. Many of St Kilda’s restaurants display the works of local artists and retain strong links to a creative past. Mirka at Tolarno in Fitzroy Street pays homage to Melbourne artist Mirka Mora. There you can dine, watched closely by winged cherubs and mythically-inspired creatures looking down upon you.

Sunday in St Kilda is market day on St Kilda’s Upper Esplanade, with all types of arts and craft on display and for sale. Handmade jewellery, bags, scarves, pottery and ceramics, wrought-iron pieces and original artwork are just some of the items to be found. A trinket to take home is a must!

While you’re in St Kilda, a visit to Luna Park, the historic amusement park that opened in 1912, should not be missed. The smiling face of Mr Moon is a St Kilda icon, and the Scenic Railway the oldest continuously operating roller coaster in the world!

St Kilda is also known for its great live music venues. The Esplanade Hotel, affectionately known as "The Espy", has a strong history of live entertainment. The Prince of Wales Hotel, aka "The Prince", and The Palais Theatre both play host to a large line-up of local and international bands.

St Kilda is a magnet for the creative, the bohemian and the different. A wonderful mix of laid-back lifestyle and beachside suburb. A must-see for any visitor to Melbourne.

Melbourne is the multicultural capital of Australia. The city’s heart pulses with stylish cafes and restaurants, vibrant shopping precincts, museums and art galleries. The art galleries and museums in Melbourne are host to world class exhibitions and impressive collections. The lan Potter Centre: NGV Australia in Federation Square is a public gallery dedicated to showcasing only Indigenous and Australian art, and has almost 25,000 works in its collection. And how can we not mention The Melbourne Cup each November, a world-class horseracing event that attracts competitors and punters from across the globe. Melbourne is reputed to be the only place in the world where everything stops for a horse race.
